Description

THE BLACK CAT (1934): After a bus crash on a lonely Austrian road, American honeymooners, Joan (Jacqueline Wells) and Peter Alison (David Manners) are forced to spend the night at the house of Poelzig (Boris Karloff), a sinister looking man who is engaged in an intense feud with Dr Werdegast (Bela Lugosi), whom the couple met on the Orient Express. Held captive in the mausoleum against their will, they soon discover that Poelzig is the high priest at Black Mass and has chosen Joan to be the Devil’s bride. The couple are then faced with trying to escape the unspeakable treachery culminating in an unforgettable climax to this horror classic.

THE RAVEN (1936): Magician Erasmus Craven (Vincent Price) is still deeply depressed two years after the death of his beloved wife, Lenore (Hazel Court). One day, he’s visited by Adolphus Bedlo (Peter Lorre), who has been transformed into a raven after losing a duel to Dr Scarabus (Boris Karloff), an evil wizard. After Craven transforms Bedlo back into a human, Bedlo claims to have seen Lenore’s ghost at Scarabus’ castle, prompting the two to head to Scarabus’ castle to seek Craven’s lost love.

THE TOWER OF LONDON (1939): Ambitious Richard, Duke of Gloucester (Basil Rathbone), brother of King Edward IV (Ian Hunter), manoeuvres to get the powerful John Wyatt (John Sutton) to France, then has his brother make him the Lord Protectorate for Edward’s sons, the two young princes. Impatient that the ill Edward clings to life, Richard arranges his death, as well as that of his other brother, the Duke of Clarence (Vincent Price). With only the princes remaining, Richard’s obsession to rule shows no sign of abating.

BLACK FRIDAY (1940): As Dr Ernest Sovac (Boris Karloff) makes his way to the electric chair, he recalls the events that landed him on death row. After placing brain matter from a violent gangster into the mind of a dying teacher named George Kingsley (Stanley Ridges), Sovac watches his patient take on violent tendencies. When Sovac learns, through an almost-possessed Kingsley, about a hidden stash of mob money, the doctor entices the criminal in Kingsley to come out–with murderous results.
